Collagen is a protein responsible for healthy joints and skin elasticity, or stretchiness.

It's in your bones, muscles, and blood, comprising three-quarters of your skin and a third of the protein in your body. It essentially keeps your body's tissues together. 

As you age, your existing collagen breaks down, and it gets harder for your body to produce more, which is why many take a Collagen supplement.

Several studies have shown that collagen peptides or supplements containing collagen may help slow the ageing of your skin by reducing wrinkles and dryness.

What Type Of Collagen Is This?

Our collagen is Hydrolyzed Marine Collagen type 1. Hydrolyzed means it's easier to absorb by the body.

One review of 11 studies focusing mostly on women found that taking 3–10 grams of collagen per day for an average of 69 days led to improvements in skin elasticity and hydration. Source

Another study was conducted as a clinical interventional study on 72 healthy women treated either with a collagen supplement for three months.

Compared to placebo, a significant reduction in eye wrinkle volume along with an increase of procollagen type I and elastin were reported in the collagen group over a 56 day period. Source

In the follow-up phase, the Collagen group was observed one month after the treatment to evaluate the sustainability of the changes induced by the application. The results show that all the effects were substantially retained during the follow-up period. Throughout the study, there were no adverse effects, neither for the placebo nor for the test product, which has been on the market for many years as a food supplement.

Q: How long does it take to work?

A: It can take between two weeks and several months to notice any difference when taking Collagen daily. This can depend on things such as age and current collagen levels in your body.

Q: How do I take Collagen?

A: Add 8gs (one scoop) to either a drink with at least 200ml of water and stir. If the collagen sinks to the bottom, you will need to re-stir and drink quickly, which is why it can be easier to use less liquid and drink faster. You can also add it to a smoothie, coffee or tea porridge, or yoghurt. 

If you are adding to flavoured drinks or foods, we recommend our unflavored collagen.

Q: At what age should I start taking collagen?

A: Collagen levels start declining from age 25 so we recommend around then.

Q: Why should I take a supplement instead of using a collagen cream?

A: The collagen molecule is poorly absorbed by the skin because of its size. Collagen is much better absorbed orally when hydrolysed and can reach deeper layers of skin to offer its benefits. 

Q: What does hydrolysed mean?

A: It essentially means broken down into smaller molecules so that your body can better absorb the collagen.

Q: Does Collagen help with joints?

A: Yes, but not this Collagen. This is Collagen type 1. For joints, you’ll want a Collagen Type 2 supplement.
